Today marks the release of Max Lucado’s new book Fearless. Out of all the books I have read from Max Lucado, I do believe that this is one of his best and is quite possible the most timely. This book is one I would recommend to everyone who struggles with fear. That is a very wide audience. It is destined to be a best seller.
People all around the world are gripped by fear. From what they are hearing on TV and radio to reading in newsprint and the Internet, people are scared of what is coming next and what the impact may be on their life.
Max takes a look at the things that are scaring people today and applies the Bible to the fear we experience. Consistently through the book he challenges the fear that we all have and reminds us of what Jesus has done and what he promises.
To the Christian it should be eye opening. Many times we get caught up in the media craziness and the water cooler conversation to the point that we forget what Jesus has promised. Lucado wrote, “Feed you fears, and your faith will starve. Feed your faith, and your fears will”.
Most of us expect God to work things out in our lives, but our expectations are not how he always does it. In Chapter six, Max compares how we expect God to show up and how he typically does. None of us are immune from sickness, job loss, financial ruin and death, but we are running fearful from those storms (and more) and not realizing that God is right in those storms with us.
I had the opportunity to meet Max about one year ago. My guess is he was working on this book at the time. Guess I could have given him some more material by sharing my fears with him. Yes, we all have fears and we all have God and his word to help us be Fearless.
