My office is located in a building that has offices by people with other businesses. We have a small kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave and a sink. It is not huge, but it gets the job done. Several years ago, we had a snack and drink machine, but those were old and were done away with. Today, it is best to bring your own food and drink if you want something.
Recently, a snack box showed up in the kitchenette. This open box of goodies, included crackers, cookies, candy and the like. As you walk by the contents look appealing especially if you are hungry. However, everything in the box, regardless of size or content, costs 85 cents. Highway robbery if you ask me. 85 cents!!
One day I walked by ant there was a note from the person who placed the open box of goodies indicating that the cost was 85 cents and the box was short several dollars. Really? What do expect with an open box full of food?
Last Saturday it really hit me. I was waiting on the coffee pot and looked at the box. To my amazement I saw this….
Can you see that? Not only are things 85 cents, but you can pay with a Visa or Mastercard!! If I had a card, I would be tempted to put my account number on a piece of paper, mark 85 cents and see if it ever made it to my bill. How crazy!
You may think that I am joking, but that box is right here in my office building.
I can remember back fifteen years ago or more, when White Castle began to take credit cards. At the time, I lived on credit cards and was thrilled that they tool plastic for a 35 cent hamburger. One day I bought lunch there just to see if it was true. Funny, I probably paid for that lunch for years!
Now today, I can by a bag of chips and candy at an inflated, outrageous price and put it on my credit card to boot. Have we really come to this?
